Why we’re backing Westfield FC (and why their 50th anniversary matters)

Some partnerships just make sense.

When we first started talking to Westfield FC about becoming their main kit sponsor, it took about five minutes to realise we were on the same page. Quality matters. Longevity matters. Doing things properly matters. And most importantly, community matters.

So we’re absolutely chuffed to announce that Driveways Plus (and our sister company Highways Plus) is now the official main kit sponsor for Westfield FC’s 2024/25 season. And what a season to be part of – it’s their 50th anniversary.

Fifty years of grassroots football

If you’re not familiar with Westfield FC, let us fix that.

The club was established back in 1976, starting with youth football in what was then a very different sporting landscape. Nearly five decades later, they’re still going strong – stronger, actually. Adult football arrived in 2001, with that first team made up largely of players who’d come through the youth ranks. That’s the kind of continuity you don’t see enough of these days.

This season, they’re running 10 youth teams and three adult sides. That’s over 230 players, ranging from tiny TOTs and Under 6s (the really small ones who are mostly just happy to kick something) right through to the First Team competing in the First Division of the Somerset County League.

The numbers are impressive, sure. But what really caught our attention was the ethos. Every manager is FA qualified, DBS checked, and first aid trained. The club achieved FA Charter Standard Development Status back in 2004. They’re not just teaching kids to kick a ball – they’re creating a safe, supportive environment where young people can develop, have fun, and maybe discover a lifelong love of the game.

That’s proper grassroots football. The kind that builds communities, not just teams.

Why this partnership matters to us

We could tell you this is about “giving back to the community” or “supporting local sport.” And whilst both of those things are true, there’s more to it than that.

We’re a local business built on relationships and reputation. When someone trusts us with their property – whether it’s a heritage home in Bath or a new-build driveway in Keynsham – they’re not just buying a surface. They’re investing in something that’ll last decades if it’s done right.

Westfield FC gets that. Fifty years of operation doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because people care, because standards matter, because cutting corners isn’t an option when you’re responsible for hundreds of young players every season.

The kit launch (and a very special season)

This Saturday, 8 November, Westfield FC’s First Team will wear the new kit for the first time in a home game. It’s a small moment in the grand scheme of things, but it’s one we’re genuinely proud to be part of.

Fifty years is worth celebrating. Half a century of giving young people a place to play, learn, and grow. Half a century of Saturday mornings on muddy pitches, parent volunteers running the line, and that particular brand of optimism that only grassroots sport can produce.

If you’re local and fancy showing your support, come down to the game this Saturday. See the new kit, watch some proper football, and maybe grab a cup of tea that’s slightly too hot and slightly too sweet (all part of the non-league experience).
